Understatement: as an Ibiza Spotlight clubbing intern, I've had my fair share of nights out this summer. But no house, tech house or techno party has moved me quite as much as the melodic sounds of the summer.
It's the kind of music that you can get lost in at 04:00 - or any time of day for that matter.
Although I've been visiting the island on holiday for some years now, Solomun +1 and Afterlife and their roster of melody-makers seem to have passed me by... until now. This year, they were all at the top of my bucket list.
Back in June, Maceo Plex helped get the Afterlife 2019 season underway. In doing so, his recent track When The Lights Are Out sent shivers down my spine. It was a standout moment from a standout set, that'll stay with me for many seasons to come.
Anything from Afterlife's Tale Of Us is, put simply, mesmerising. Astral and Monument being two tracks I had to feature on the playlist.
During this year's clubbing marathon, we ventured up into the hills to Cova Santa for the exclusive back-to-back-to-back set of Tale Of Us, Solomun and Magdalena at Shadows.
Tale Of Us' evergreen studio remix with Mano Le Tough of Caribou's Can't Do Without You is a track I'd been waiting to hear played out. Shadows delivered the goods on all fronts.
GHEIST take up multiple spots on the playlist, and rightly so. As a newbie to the Berlin-based band, I was blown away by their live performance at Solomun's +LIVE at Destino. Their track Frequent Tendencies still haunts me, but for all the right reasons.
At the RESISTANCE opening, we heard Patrice Bäumel give the Fideles remix of GHEIST & BOg's Venere a spin. Now an avid fan of GHEIST, I recognised the track straight away from those ghostly vocals.
Irish duo Bicep played us out with Aura to close their special appearance at Amnesia's Cocoon. It was a spiritual affair for the lucky ones that witnessed this Ibiza exclusive.
I'm all for thumping basslines and heavy techno. But if there's one thing that this season has taught me, there's nothing like those tingly goosebump musical moments that lift you from reality even if it's just for a minute.
