Get cleaning Ibiza and Formentera this weekend

Support our island paradises for World Clean up Day on Saturday 21 September.

Help to keep our seas, beaches, forests and pathways free of waste and plastics

With the second World Clean up Day on the horizon this Saturday 21 September, you are invited to participate and help keep the islands of Ibiza and Formentera green and pristine.

Last year a total of 1,700 volunteers took part in cleaning up both islands, with two tonnes of waste collected on Ibiza and one tonne on Formentera. This year the gauntlet has been laid to beat those records!

Organisations such as Ibiza Limpia, Conciencia Plástica, Plastic Free Ibiza and Plastic Free Formentera are supporting the local initiative.

Newly created platform, Let's do it Baleares is co-ordinating both islands' cleaning actions.

At an O Beach weekly clean up

In a projected global “green wave”, countless people are expected to take action against global waste pollution by cleaning up communities, parks, forests and beaches. In total, 150 countries worldwide will be organising clean ups.

To take part on Ibiza and Formentera, all you need do is turn up at 10:00 this Saturday, unless otherwise indicated, at one of the meeting points, where you can join in for the day and clear polluting waste.

Go to one of these points in the following places to join in:

If you miss this day, know that O Beach does a weekly beach clean meeting at 11:00 each Thursday till it closes for the summer.

All clean up participants are encouraged to shoot photos and videos in landscape format and share on social media with the following hashtags #worldcleanupdayibiza, #worldcleanupday and #letsdoitbaleares.

Ibiza's per capita volume of waste is much higher than the Spanish national and European averages, according to studies, making it even more important to keep the islands as free of unnecessary waste as possible.

Myrto Pispini, co-ordinator, Plastic Free Ibiza commented. “This day is an opportunity to take action together to start eliminating and reducing single-use plastics and waste from our lives”.

It's easy to take part, you'll help Ibiza and Formentera remain beautiful and allow the islands to be enjoyed as the beautiful paradises they are - we urge you to go and help!

It goes without saying, though please take your refreshments and drinks in re-usable containers and bottles!
