Things to do this month on Ibiza - March 2017

Our top picks for the month when we see the first signs of summer on Ibiza.

The Romans once believed that March was the start of the year; on Ibiza it signals the first stirrings of summer, especially towards the end. Now is the time when the volume increases a notch and the sun shines more. Here we have a selection of food, fiestas and parties to say a soft welcome to the return of longer days and warmer sun.

Pintxos on tour

If your idea of heaven is small temptingly tasty bites of perfection with a drink in lots of bars, then Pintxa San Antonio is for you. It starts on 9 March and runs till 13 April over 40 bars - oh yes! The whole idea is to go from place to place to try the different savoury pintxos, small skewers made up of all the great fresh and cured produce of Ibiza and Spain. Take your pintxo with a beer or wine included in the small price. More details of venues are still to come, so keep an eye out for updates on its website.

Talent at the Zoo

A showcase of the fabulous Zoo Project's DJ talent will be at Pacha on 10 March, so get your tickets at the ready. Body paint might well be on the cards if you want and be assured that animalistic fun will be. Get there at a reasonable time to get the lion's share of the DJ line-up of Angel Linde, Federico Grazzini, Jonathan Tena, Defex and Ryan O Gorman. Bundle it up with one of the Los Viernes dining and fun night out experiences in the Pacha restaurant beforehand and you'll have a hell of a ride.

Wave your flowers in the air

Seriously, the fiestas never stop on this island and this one in the village of San José means getting your spangly tops back out of the wardrobe for the Flower Power fiesta on 11 March from 10pm. If there earlier with kids, take them to the Mini Flower party for games and entertainment for them. Two things to do on the patron saint's day of 19 March: go and see the folk dance outside the church at 1pm or go and see the fireworks and demons parade at midnight in the centre of the village. Better the devil you know?

Dancing for summer

Winter wouldn't be the same without Unusual Suspects at Sankeys still here to keep us dancing till the summer comes. The next one is 23 March and includes a set of DJs that will make you weep with joy taking in the likes of Thomas Melchior, Dana Ruh, Frank Storm and Federico Grazzini spinning up a storm in central Playa d'en Bossa. This home of international and upcoming DJ talent is the perfect place for some unseasonal aural fun.

Spring and swing

When we near the end of March is when we start to notice summer coming and the Atzaro Spring Festival is considered to mark its start. Go to this Bohemian paradise on 26 March from 12:00 mid day to see art, attend holistic workshops and soak in the sounds of top island DJs in two main areas or see a few of the 15 live performances. Kids have fun and games too with lots to keep them interested. Get the season started and bring on the balmy nights.
