Fed up of dreary grey winter? Need a pick-me-up to kick start the year? Well, last year around 9,000 people who rushed over to Atzaro Hotel's spring fiesta obviously felt the same and enjoyed a day of music, markets, food and fun to welcome the season.
Luckily for us, Ibiza's chic country hideaway is doing it again this year on the 29th of March with its usual style, panache and a bit of bohemian charm thrown in for good measure. Set in beautiful countryside ablaze with flowers, blossom and greenery, Atzaro's the perfect place to celebrate the arrival of spring. So what's happening there?
Everything starts at noon, so you'll find the market stalls all set up – around fifteen of them selling some unique, not-on-the-high-street pieces of art, jewellery, crafts and fashion. If you fancy your retail therapy in child-free mode, there are lots of activities for kids during the whole afternoon: face painting, art workshops, tattoos (I don't think they're real) and sports.
Talking of art, British pop artist Davey Brown has a collection of twenty-five portraits of the world's top DJs on display all day. Centrepiece of the exhibition is a pair of portraits of Frankie Knuckles which will be unveiled as Knuckles' track 'Tears' is played. They'll then be auctioned for charity!
Now, we can't spend all day shopping and looking at paintings, so there's a varied mix of entertainment in two different areas all day, and late into the night. It's an eclectic mix of typical Ibiza – DJs, chill out, drumming, some live music and dancing; ballet and belly courtesy of Karis Scarlette (Royal Ballet) and Diana Moore (Tribal Belly Dance.)
The day time entertainment all takes place by the main pool from noon to five where you can hear James Regal, Deivid Kirk, Lazy Lazerus, Xicu Portas Live and the drummers each doing an hour's set. The chill out zone stays open way after bedtime and has a tantalising line up of talent. Here's the running order: 12:00 – Howard Hill, 14:00 – Ibizalights Boogie Band, 15:00 – Amour, 17:00 – Xavier Arak, 18:00 – Oriol Calvo (Ten by Nine) 20:00 – Miguel Garji (Ibiza Global Radio) 22:00 – Ibán Mendoza, 00:00 – Anna Tur (Ibiza Global Radio) 02:00 – Lúar. Wow!
It's a good job nobody has to go to work on Monday in Ibiza...
Oh, before I forget, there's fab food laid on all day with stalls dotted around selling BBQ, Vegetarian & Vegan, Rice & Curry, Desserts and Spanish Paella. There's also a serve yourself buffet with special prices for kids who maybe can't eat as much as the big people.
Why not go along and see what's happening? It's for everyone, young and old, locals and tourists, couples, friends - everyone! See you there? Sunday the 29th of March, 12 noon onwards.
