It's almost fiesta time again here on Ibiza, as Sant Josep de Sa Talaia prepares to honour its Patron Saint Joseph on Wednesday 19th March.
Leading up to the big day, this Saturday last, saw the spectacular Correfocs, or "fire runs" taking place in the village. The Correfocs - a Catalan tradition of chasing away demons and bad spirits - started at 23.00 hrs. People dressed up as devils and danced with the crowd, amidst fireworks, firecrackers, and lots of drumming.
Schedule – Wednesday, 19th March
The Patron Saint's Day of San Jose itself starts with solemn mass in the church, followed by procession then a performance by Grup Folkloric de Sant Josep de Sa Talaia. The city council and workers of the parish will be offering a wine reception in the church square during the afternoon, and the day ends with live music from 21.00 hrs and fireworks at midnight.
San Jose's Flower Power fiesta is always eagerly anticipated all over Ibiza and this year, it will take place on Saturday 22nd March.
