I keep having weeks where I think Ibiza just can't get any better. Of course, it always does! The Mediterranean waters, clear turquoise blue, are warming; the endless mountains and valleys awash with golden yellows, deep reds and gorgeous wild flowers, broken only by pine forests, grand old olive trunks and huge fig trees. To this, people flock, welcomed by the islanders. Clubs ramp up their nights, the beaches offer sanctuary and much needed relaxation but this is certainly not all. With my focus on a little luxury, a little adrenalin, I popped off to explore further…
Hotel of the Week.
More than a smidgen of luxury from Les, our Hotel Expert this week.
“The best of both worlds, at Es Trull de Can Palau you can chill-out in comfort whilst enjoying the peace & quiet of the countryside only minutes from the heart of Ibiza Town, the port and the action. The reception and restaurant are a converted, modernised, typical Ibiza farmhouse, whilst the rooms are of completely new construction in the Ibiza style and have up-to-date facilities including wi-fi, i-dock, dvd and hydro massage bath.”
Villa of the Week.
KT, our Villa Expert, knows just how precious a sea view, especially a sunset view can be and found me this lovely villa.
“A villa with a sea view! 15 minutes stroll from the gorgeous Cala Vadella, it's a spacious villa [how many sun loungers around the pool?! – Ed], large rooms throughout, big balconies & terraces. Sea view villa Cala Vadella (Ref. 073) is very well equipped, incl Wi-Fi, Ipod dock, air conditioning and finally a great 12 x 6 metre pool for everyone's enjoyment.”
Restaurant of the Week.
Oh my. Internationally acclaimed, award-winning restaurants on Ibiza? We have them and Sa Capella remains deliciously within the ranks of the best. No words are going to get close to the ambience, the luxury, the great food nor my surprise at how inexpensive it was compared to the quality experienced. For foodies and romantics, this is a Do Not Miss alert.
Club News of the Week.
I saw Stivi, our clubbing expert yesterday. I expected him to look haggard, exhausted. Instead he looked fit and full of life, loving the summer vibe. Guess this is what happens when you know when and where to go and he's the man!
"Cream's opening party last week was a big success, so we're thinking about giving it another go tonight …on the other hand, Kehakuma at Space is also very tempting with Guy Gerber playing one of his live sets!
This coming Saturday will be a big night in Ibiza. Everyone on the island (well, at least the Spanish and those in the know!) celebrates the "Noche de San Juan"...always an exciting night, because there are normally some outdoor parties happening on the beach or elsewhere on the island. It's mostly last minute-announced so make sure you have a look at our clubbing forums.
Elsewhere, infamous Barcelona promoter "El Row" launch their Ibiza summer season at Privilege. They host the VISTA CLUB room (Coco Loco and La Vaca together for those knowing Privilege / KU for a while!) and I'm sure their parties are going to be very popular. If you want it a bit more laidback, here's my very special suggestion for you: DJ legend Alfredo and his son Jaime Fiorito (both now performing under the moniker The Heritage Project) are hosting a night at Ibiza Rocks House (a.k.a. Pikes). The party starts at 6pm around the pool – great way to start your night!
Talking about Privilege earlier, next Monday 25th June is a date absolutely not to be missed for any trance music fan! Armin van Buuren kicks off his "A State Of Trance" season in the world's biggest club - we'll be there for sure."
Things to Do.
This week I was spoilt with a massage from a Masseur whom you would think had been born to the life. An extraordinary experience, Pablo isn't just a brilliant masseur (AND qualified Osteopath) – he also accepts private bookings, direct to your villa, apartment or hotel. Legally registered, I want to say ‘you're in safe hands' but it's a great deal more wonderful than that!
Time for a little adrenalin and much, much laughter. I took a cheeky afternoon out, all in the name of work you understand, and popped along to the beautifully situated Cesars Watersports Centre (and fabulous beach bar restaurant just for really good measure!) Regardless of your level of experience (or like me, complete lack of,) here you can water-ski, jet-ski, para-sail and so very much more.
Looking ahead.
I'm a little Polo obsessed this week, with the World No.1, Adolfo Cambiaso, gracing the island. However, although the Polo event is (free) over four days at the new Polo Club near Carnes March, I can't get there until Sunday (Final Day) – after celebrating all night the Fiesta of San Juan …
Then of course, the amazing venue that is the B12 Gallery is also hosting the spectacular Floating Circus event on Sunday evening – can I enjoy this and still get back to San Juan in time for the fireworks at midnight…?
Decisions, decisions.
On behalf of the team at Ibiza Spotlight, I would like to wish Joan on our Villa Team a very happy birthday this Sunday and to you all, a truly fabulous weekend!
Cat Milton.
