Every year festivities held in Ibiza town to celebrate two saints' days are grouped together under the collective title of Fiesta de la Tierra or Earth Festival. This year we have advance news of the free concerts which will be held during the shindig, and there's a distinctly local flavour about them.
Because of swingeing budget cuts, the amount of cash available has dropped by 70% from €191 k to a mere €69 k so the big name bands of the past - Maldita Nerea and Alaska for example appeared last year – have had to move over in favour of our local boys.
So, at 22.00 on 4th August Projecte Mut will play in The Reina Sofia Park under the walls of the old town and on the 7th there'll be a night featuring bands who sing in Catalan - Ses Sopris, Rels and Mishima.
We can also reveal that one thing that has not been affected by the cuts is the big fireworks display in Ibiza Marina on the 8th August. The council has managed to get enough private funding from local business to pay for the display which starts at midnight. Hooray for that!
