It's amazing how many things you never even dreamed of which, when you see them in print, suddenly remind you that everybody's different. Take restaurants for example, which I've always thought of as a place to eat, have a bit of 'us' time, away from the distractions which always seem to crop up when you're dining at home – the cat pretending it wants to come in, fast forwarding through the adverts, a police raid - that kind of thing.
Reading through our Spotlight page of restaurants it seems that 'entertain us' time is the new 'us' time if our list of Entertaining Restaurants is anything to go by. There's a whole raft of culinary establishments in Ibiza that will keep our minds totally occupied before, after and inter course (unless you pop out for a quick fag during the proceedings) which are ideal for a night with friends, colleagues, relatives, maybe even your new girlfriend if you can't think of much to say?
Top of the list for fun has got to be Tijuana in San Antonio (or San Antone as it's known when dining TexMex style) which features Aztec décor, Mariachi music, Fajitas, Burritos and Chimichangas all served up with lots of arribas, andales and Ay Chihuahuas, plus party games like 'pass the giant Mexican Sombrero' which are guaranteed to help make friends even if the Tequila doesn't.
Moving swiftly round the coast to the Bay of San Antonio ancient philosophies and religions collide with 1967 Haight Ashbury, where hippy, trippy haven Kumharas has a prime spot on the sunset coast. Shiva, Zen and Timothy Leary cohabit a pleasure dome stuffed with dragon benches, hindu lie in chairs, exotic ingredients, mojitos, and talks with your inner self by Shiva's fountain. Add some artistic improvisation, acrobatic dance, blazing torch juggling and video projections and you'll want to leave the decadent west forever.
Even if you can't
tell feng shui from char siu or tai chi from shui mai then it doesn't matter at the Wok Gran China because not only is the
food fresh and delicious, but it's also the entertainment as it's prepared before your very eyes. A black belt in the Chinese culinary arts of stir frying and wok tossing your chef is a first dan
in producing sizzling, saucy, creations, as spicy as you like, in no time at all. With 70 choices and budget prices it's a great night out, even if you're only a white belt in Chinese meals!
