Ibiza and Volcano Ash

Even though the ash from the Icelandic volcano has not directly affected Ibiza airport, the knock on effects from more northerly areas have. The ash has not entered Ibiza airspace and so our airport has remained open throughout the crisis.

Unfortunately, events further north, where 16 Spanish airports have been closed, and in the rest of Europe have caused cancellations in Ibiza. Authorities say that 16 flights (8 arrivals and 8 departures) were cancelled because of the conditions but flights to and from the southern airports in Spain were still running.

Many Spanish travellers headed straight from the airport to the ferry terminal where operators Balearia and Acciona had put extra services on to Palma, Denia, Valencia and Barcelona.

Like everywhere else in the North of Europe, Ibiza is playing the waiting game and hoping that the cloud disperses rapidly.
