Opening parties come and go on the Island of Ibiza. This club opens, that club opens, but one opening party is permanently etched onto the brain of every clubber who regards themselves as a true Ibiza clubber.
Even just walking around San An on Monday 16th June you can feel the tension mounting as ten thousand people anticipate their evening. Mix all this hype and expectation with the worlds biggest club Privilege and you've got the party of parties, Manumission opening 2003 - Case 1.
Whether it's the fact that you're in the world's biggest club, the pricey line up of high flying DJs or the promise of nudity, Manumission always manages to attract the majority of club lovers on the Island, ensuring Manumission staff are never under worked.
The night itself is more voyeuristic and theatrical than participatory as the night is driven mainly by the ongoing show rather than the big name DJs who perform above the pool. And the pilgrimage to Privilege isn't a favourite of many either - entertainment in itself is crossing the major road from the disco bus! (Hold on to someone sober.)
This years show which created the usual mass of elbowing and toe stomping into the main room had the usual crazy, kooky theme created by the Manumission crew. In complete contrast to last year's fairytale like thesis, 2003 sees a murder mystery style scandal take to the glittering stage. Not to ruin the plot for forthcoming Manumission goers, expect nudity, seduction, and porn style going-ons as a series of crimes are solved, only known as 'The Phantasmagorical Manumission Mystery'.
Of course nothings ever complete each year without the weekly show from the fabulous Manumission girls and which I must add guys - there's 50 of them this season! Myself not being the biggest fan of all the Manumission commotion was actually quietly surprised and impressed at the 'anything goes' frolics.
Usually no better than an expensive Christmas pantomime in previous years, this opening was a huge step-up, and fingers-crossed the mystery and mayhem gets even better...
