There's a fascinating exhibition of art taking place in Formentera for anyone who has an interest in the Pine Islands' hippy heritage. Aubrey 'Po' Powell is exhibiting 18 album covers in the San Francisco Muncipal Rooms from Monday until July 19th.
Powel has been inextricably linked with both Formentera and the history of rock music since the first summer of love in 1967. It was then that he first arrived on the island to stay with Syd Barrett,
still with Pink Floyd at the time, and the next year designed the album cover for 'A Saucerful of Secrets' under the name of his graphic design company Hipgnosis.
Over the years he and his two partners designed some of the most emblematic album sleeves ever, working with the likes of Led Zeppelin, Peter Frampton, The Rolling Stones, Deep purple and Black
Sabbath to name but a few from a total output of over 2000 LPs.
Don't forget, if you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
