The Ibiza Mix

Remember back in the day when Ibiza was a tiny dot in the Med

Remember back in the day when Ibiza was a tiny dot in the Med populated only by Ibicencos who managed to get by using only about a dozen surnames? Now 50 years later we live on a truly international island whose reputation precedes it all around the world.

Things have changed and now only 44% of the island's population is Ibicenco with more than half of us coming from 'abroad.' The vast majority of the newcomers to Ibiza are from the Spanish mainland and the rest are from all over the world.

This weekend the multicultural nature of the 'new' Ibiza is celebrated in a big get together at the Recinto Ferial exhibition centre in Ibiza town. On show for all to see and enjoy is the art, culture and gastronomy representing the various associations on the island. So for example different communities from Spain like Valencia and Andalucia will be present as will more far flung and unusual places like Peru, Britain, Colombia and Morocco.

On Saturday night as a special treat the group Crótalo will be performing traditional songs from the 24 areas of Spain and the world present at the celebration. Unfortunately we won't be there as we'll be having a traditional British Saturday night – a Chinese takeaway and a video from Blockbuster!
