Fiesta Time in Ibiza

Ibiza currently has two big local festivals running in both San Antonio and San Agustin. You know how it is with fiesta days in Ibiza; they start off as a one-day thing and gradually grow to about a week either side of the big day.

San Antonio's San Bartolome festival is officially on Thursday 24th August but they've already been at it for about 10 days with sports competitions, exhibitions, live music and even an appearance from the 600 Harley Davidson aficionados who are holding their own rally at Cala Bassa at the moment. Anybody in San Antonio on the 24th will be rudely awoken with a massive firecracker 'let-off' at 8.30 in the morning and the day is capped off with a gigantic fireworks display at Sa Punta des Moli at midnight. Local folk traditionally hold parties on the beaches until the fireworks begin, so get down there and join them.

On a much smaller scale the tiny village of San Agustin celebrates on 28th August but started the fiesta 10 days before hand. There was a Brazilian fiesta last Saturday and coming up in the pretty church square will be Passion Dance on Friday, La Gran Orquestra Republicana on Saturday, Can Raia Rock on Sunday and local favourites Pota Lait on the big day, Monday. The festival lasts until 10th September with art exhibitions and concerts of a more classical nature.
