Ibiza is fast becoming a haven for those who like just that little bit extra from their holidays. Already a firm favourite with the jet set who fly in to their luxury villas, and the wet set, whose expensive cruisers can be seen showing off in Ibiza harbour in summer, the island is now fast improving its hotel facilities.
Currently there is only one 5 Star hotel here, but this will soon be joined by four others – the Gran Hotel Sal Ibiza, the Mirador de Dalt Vila, the Insotel Fenicia Prestige and the Auditorio. The first two are both in Ibiza town and the latter are in Santa Eulalia.
Not only will there construction bring the number of luxury hotel places above the 1000 mark, but as a condition of them gaining planning permission, the hotels have to remain open at least 11 months of the year and employ 70% of their staff on a fixed contract.
Both of these conditions are seen as being good for Ibiza’s tourist industry and its employees. Good for the guests however is the range of impressive facilities that the hotels have to provide to earn their stars. In addition to the usual superb restaurants, luxury rooms and suites, there will be health treatment spas – now regarded as a must for today’s modern tourists – where clients can enjoy common or garden massages and saunas as well as less well known treatments such as chromotherapy and chocolate baths. Mmmmmmm, chocolate!
