It Never Rains

But it pours. At last we have a chance to have a good old British moan about the weather

But it pours. At last we have a chance to have a good old British moan about the weather as our normally temperate island has been subjected to almost a week of continual and torrential rainfall.

The downpour began last Friday evening, just as people were leaving work to start the five day-long weekend which included two national public holidays. A terrific storm started the proceedings as gallons of water fell in a short space of time flooding all the main streets of Ibiza town at rush hour. Chaos ensued as thousands of motorists tried to get home past cars abandoned in the high waters, the power was cut and the roads were plunged into darkness, and ferries were either diverted to other ports or were cancelled.

Unluckiest of all were the pupils at some of our schools where flooding in the buildings would have given them all a day off if they hadn’t already been on holiday. Statistics show that up to 228 cubic litres of water fell on every square metre of the island in only 6 days. The good news is that the farmers are for once happy with the bad weather as the island’s wells have all been topped up nicely.
