It has just been sensationally revealed that every man woman and child in the Balearic Islands is hopelessly addicted to Cigar smoke. That’s if the statistics published by trade magazine Mundo Estanco (Tobacco World) are to be believed.
The mag’s statisticians have calculated that if the total annual consumption of cigars - 35,824,935 – was divided by the population, then each man, woman and child on the islands would smoke 42.36 cigars every year, or just less than one a week.
So the next time you’re passing a kids’ playground and see a group of five-year-olds sharing a pack of Coronas Gigantes de Havana, don’t be surprised, as here they’re considered just another statistic.
