Statistics just published reveal that the Balearic Islands' population have on average, more than one mobile phone each.
It is thought that many people have two phones, one for business and one for pleasure which accounts for the average of over 100%. Compare this with the mainland where people only have 80% of a phone each, which wouldn't be much use in an emergency.
The other side to the coin is that when the islands fill up with tourists there just aren't enough lines to go round and another 300 transmitters are required.
So if you've ever wondered why that all-important txt msg 'I'm in space' takes so long, and then even longer for the answer, 'me 2,' to get back to you, now you know!
