Ibiza caught the tail end of a mighty electrical storm last week.
In the early hours of Thursday a massive electrical storm passed over the island in a line from San Antonio, through Santa Gertrudis, and out via Santa Eulalia. In total there were 180 flashes of lightning and terribly loud bangs and crashes as the thunder made its way across land, though there were only localised torrential downpours.
Contrast this to Mallorca, where over 600 lightning rays, flooding and hailstorms were reported. Meteorologists say that his type of storm is not unusual in the Ballearics when warm sea air meets cooler air off the mountains, but it normally happens in the latter part of August.
