Save our Seaweed

There's a clear message from our environmental authorities that more must be done to prevent the destruction of one of the island's most precious assets, the aquatic plant posidonia.

The posidonia prairies which grow all around the coast of the island are an important part of the eco-system and are in fact one reason why Ibiza has world heritage site status.

The posidonia actually helps to prevent coastal erosion, and keeps the beaches and dunes intact and so any changes to its delicate life cycle could have far reaching consequences.

To preserve the prairies from damage from the hundreds of boats and pleasure craft which ply our waters in summer, the coastal authorities will be locating 1000 buoys from San Antonio to Formentera, so that the coastline will remain unchanged for our holidaymaking pleasure.
