Visitors to San Antonio can not fail to be impressed by the Beirut-like quality of its waterfront. It's uninspiring monotone high rise apartments conceal a myriad of architectural treasures and hidden gems dating back to the time when San An was a picturesque fishing village.
Every year the council gives a prize for the best building façade in town and this year it has just been won by one of its best restaurants, es Rebost de Can Prats. It occupies a hundred-year-old cottage and the €500 prize was awarded for the way the owners have impeccably maintained the original splendour of the building.
It's a shame that the council couldn't subsidise the owners of the big apartment blocks to spruce them up with a bit of colour to give a more favourable first impression.
