The missing giant catamaran Nixe has been found three days after it disappeared without trace. All contact was lost with the ferry last Monday as it headed from Singapore, where it was built, to Spain where it will be used by Balearia on the Ibiza to Denia route.
First suspicions were that the cat had been attacked by pirates who operate in Malaysia, but the truth of its disappearance was less sinister as it had been caught in an unexpected cyclone and limped without communication to Port Blair in the Andaman Islands. The strong winds and high waves of the storm caused a great deal of damage to the prow of the boat but the crew, ten of whom are Spanish nationals, were described as 'safe and sound.'
We still can't fathom out why none of them thought to put in a quick phone call to Balearia along the lines of 'your giant 63 metre €18m investment is in Port Blair after a cyclone, see you soon.'
