Protesters against the new 'motorway' in Ibiza scored a big ten-four on Sunday when they organised a convoy on the road from Sunset City (San Antonio) to I-town (Ibiza) with hardly a sighting of Smokey Bear (the police).
Over 200 cars travelling at 30 KMPH held up traffic on the road and caused massive traffic tailbacks, some as long as 5 KMS, over a two-hour period. In fact some cynics were heard to comment that the car chaos and clamour of klaxons resembled that of any Tuesday morning in summer when the two big discos on the road close.
The San Rafael based platform against the widening of the road now has over 9,000 signatures of people who are against the scheme and are calling on the new Government to change it.
By a million to one chance, any motorists trying to avoid the jam by travelling on the road through San Jose were thwarted by unusual tarmac-ing activities, unusual because this type of work normally takes place in the middle of summer and never on a Sunday!
