Ibiza was plunged back into the communications dark ages last week when workers from the water company Aqualia cut through a fibre optic cable in Ibiza town just at the same time that Telefónica also had a breakdown in its controlling software!
Thousands of people and businesses were left without phone, fax and Internet connection from 10 AM until 2 PM when the cable was finally repaired.
Bank branches were unable to function properly and cash machines couldn't dispense cash, but luckily, Government departments and the town hall soldiered on as efficiently as ever.
A spokesman from Aqualia said, 'it was an accident.'
