San Jose's plain-clothes police unit was kept very busy last summer.
Strolling about the area's main tourist resorts of Playa den Bossa and San Antonio Bay in their size 12 boots, the agents were easily able to swoop on all manner of law breaking miscreants making a nuisance of themselves to the sunlounging masses.
The 5 agents went into non-uniformed action over 3900 times, the vast majority of which involved 'ticketeros' (flier-giver-outers), Looky Looky men, (vendors of fake watches, sunglasses, etc), and the 'fruit-in-a-basket' brigade who sell slices of pineapple at extortionate prices.
Nearly 60% of the infractions occurred in Playa den Bossa, whilst the least were on San Jose's only official nudist beach Es Cavallet, where presumably, sun worshippers don't carry so much money on their person.
In all 15,000 pieces of 'jewellery' and 3000 CDs were confiscated from illegal vendors, and the good news is that the plain-clothed squad will be back this year from April to October.
