At last something significant is going to be done to the dangerous stretch of road from Ibiza to San Antonio which has made headlines for several years for all the wrong reasons.
A combination of factors; lack of lighting, dangerous curves, hidden entrances, the presence of two giant macro discos, and now a new industrial estate, have given this road a high death toll and an infamous reputation.
Recently, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and his Ambassador to Spain have asked that the road be made safe for the sake of the many tourists from that country. It has now been announced that central government will fund the complete works to improve security on the road, which will include making two lanes for traffic in each direction, eliminating or making safer many of the entrances and exits, and totally improving the accesses to both big discos. Work will start in early 2005 and finish at the end of 2007.
