Ibiza's security chief Marienna Sánchez-Jáuregui has promised that the shortfall in the numbers of officers needed to police the island will be filled by new recruits from among the 2000 graduates of Spain's police academy in Ávila.
Meanwhile she announced the arrival of a special police squad of 20 officers who will patrol 'problematic' areas of Ibiza town such as Sa Penya, the Marina, Figueretes, and the Plaza del Parque, and whose main task will be to control the consumption of illegal drugs. Interestingly, all of these officers will be required to speak English and German for this work!
