Our local fire brigade was busy the other day. A blaze in Ses Paises which destroyed 30,000 square metres of stubble, was extinguished with the help of the special plane which scoops water up from the sea and dumps it on the blaze.
Firemen, who arrived at the scene straight from putting out a rubbish container fire in Ibiza's Avenida España, were worried that the force of the wind would fan the flames onto nearby houses. Finally they rescued a person had had become trapped in a lift at a nearby hotel.
All this and four of our firemen have been selected to take part in the World Police and Firemen Games in July along with 12,000 other competitors.
