All Ibiza's taxis now have taximeters and unified rates between the various boroughs on the island.
This has meant an across the board increase in prices of about 5 to 10% and needless to say the taxi drivers union are ecstatic about this. Previously there was a fixed tariff based on the distance travelled but now with the meter which is ticking away the whole journey they get paid for sitting doing nothing in a traffic jam.
However they do point out that certain journeys can actually be cheaper, providing of course that all the traffic lights are on green, there's no back up of traffic on the roundabouts, and that no vital mid-summer repainting of the white lines on the roads is taking place!
