The residents of the village of Jesús in Santa Eulalia have won a significant victory over the road signs policy in the area. Along with many other boroughs, Santa Eulalia is intent on making all street names and signs in Catalan.
However most of the residents of Jesús are fairly affluent Spanish immigrants who neither speak Catalan nor particularly want to. A petition of over 300 names was sent to the council complaining about being under 'pressure of Catalan' in the area, which led to the renaming of the streets in Spanish. Happily, all the Spanish residents in the village will now be able to find their way home after a night in the bar!
