To justify its recent 40% tax increases on hotels which run the 'all inclusive' scheme because they create more rubbish than normal hotels, San Juan Council has just released the results of a specially commissioned survey.
It shows that 30 to 60% more rubbish is produced by 'all inclusive' hotels simply because of the type of service they give. For example drinks and food are served using plastic cups and plates which are immediately thrown away, instead of being washed and reused like normal crockery.
The results also show that more waste is produced when meals are served buffet style, rather the traditional table service, as it seems that the hotel clients 'bite off more than they can chew' when helping themselves.
Interestingly, it appears that only two nationalities favour these 'all inclusive' holidays - the British and Germans!
