It will be no great surprise when I tell you that last night Space was rammed; hot sweaty bodies bouncing to the deep techno sounds blasting from each of the rooms speakers. The line-up across all the rooms was fierce, meaning deciding where to plot for the evening would be a hard decision so why make it?
The Discoteca was home to Deetron, Nicole Moudaber and the legendary Carl Cox; whilst La Terraza of course pulled a few crackers out of the bag with Uner, Sebastien Leger and Nic Fanciulli all performing. The Sunset Terrace was hosted by Future Disco with the madly skilled producer John Talabot playing in the build up to midnight. The Premier Etage was hosted by Pukka Up resident DJs and El Salon was taken over by Too Damn Glam. With a little bit of something for everyone I got my party started in the terrace checking out Uner's set.
Infused with western vocals and embracing an up-tempo techno sound the room was filled with an infectious techy bounce from wall to wall. With a good underlying rhythm and groovy synthlines anchored down with a deep punchy bass, Uner had perfectly tailored his sound to the party and La Terraza. Sebastien Leger then took over with a really creative set, varying in sound by exploring a minimal style as well as percussion and electronic sounds exploding into a deep penetrating bass but he managed to maintain an underlying groove throughout. Claude VonStroke was even seen bouncing about the DJ booth wearing a Carl Cox mask in the DJ booth clearly absolutely loving it.
In the Main Room Nicole Moudaber was smashing choppy techno sounds out across the dance-floor to a crowd of adoring fans. The music and atmosphere was on point from start to finish and even the occasional stumble as I attempted to make my way through the manic crowds didn't put me off. Aside from the stomping bassline the four sexy senorita's who strolled into VIP failed to go unnoticed; the crowd as a whole was a selection of VIP's, Spanish and workers so a great friendly and true Ibizan vibe was in the air.
Enter Carl Cox... Oh yes, Oh yes! Accompanied by huge visual effects and one of Space's legendary laser shows - not forgetting the cardboard Carl Cox faces handed out amongst the crowd which served well as fans, the Space man began his season in true Coxy style and wowed clubbers with his hard techno beats. Keeping in tune with his performance at the grand Space opening party in May, Cox's show had a deep influence of Science and futuristic elements. Robot man Kryoman (MK X model) also made an appearance and was raised above the crowd before he performed his electrifying routine, smothered in LED lights and spraying flames across the dance-floor as Pirupa's track 'Party non stop' carried on the night.
As opening parties go last night was a great sign of how popular Carl Cox is on the White Isle. Over the season the Techno king will be joined by an array of raw talent from underground artists to world class acts so 2012 looks set to be a banging season!
