Preview: Departure 2012

With their first anniversary insight Departure get ready to celebrate whilst preparing for their second season on the White Isle.

Launched by Andy Young and Oliver Lloyd-Taylor in 2011, Departure soon became the most talked about workers party in Ibiza last summer. Hosting a predominantly underground party on Itaca's roof terrace in San Antonio this event had an array of DJ's from headliners to budding artists entertaining the crowds each Friday night. In addition to solid line-ups throughout the season Departure was also home to a unique and friendly party atmosphere which definitely helped to attract the majority of the Islands workers.

With experience in running parties such as Organic and PRT in the backroom of Savannah since 2009 its founders were no strangers to providing party-goers with a fun time and definitely know how to attract a strong crowd. Their debut event held in England on Friday 5th March 2011 at Joshua Brooks in Manchester saw headliners Burnski and Miguel Campbell take to the decks and mark the start of something special.

Whilst the White Isle's workers will always remain at the core of Departure this event will also appeal to tourists and music lovers in general. Last year Departure clearly saw the need for a smaller night in Ibiza's clubbing scene and successfully created an event which captured a real community feel; somewhere for people to have as a regular event on their doorstep.

Departure has big plans to expand in 2012 and will not only host their party at Itaca but they will also hold one off events throughout the season at other renowned venues such as Sankeys in Playa den Bosa. Both Sankeys and Departure were born from Manchester's music scene so this summer will see the two join forces with Departure hosting several parties in Sankeys Ibiza. They successfully hosted a room during Carnival last summer which saw Miguel Campbell and Josh T headline. Their first collaboration for 2012 will see Departure being invited back to Sankeys to be part of their 2012 opening. They will also be holding their own opening party at Itaca on Friday 1st June where they're looking to put together their strongest Ibiza line-up yet.

Aside from bagging themselves some pretty well known DJ's for their events last year Departure has also had regular sets from some of the White Isle's most popular resident DJ's and budding talents such as; Dan Wild, Angus Jefford, Perry Louis, Dan Sanders, Will Boyd and Sam Archer, Jamie Osborne and Josh Luke Dunleavy of Backwards Disco. Departure also has a firm staple of talent in their main resident DJ Oliver Drops both in Manchester and Ibiza. This year also sees Departure offering the opportunity to get involved and DJ at their events with their search for new DJ talent.

Departure Ibiza has been compared to a night at your local pub as they have successfully captured the friendly neighbourhood vibe. Combining the pleasures of partying with all your friends and impressive Underground house and disco sets makes Departure an event not to be missed. The intimate and affordable elements of Departure in Ibiza definitely appeal to me and I'd recommend that anybody from workers to tourists check out one of their parties this summer.

If you like the sound of Departure hitting Ibiza but want a bit of the action sooner then get down to South Nightclub, Manchester on the 9th March where the guys will be celebrating their 1st Birthday with Alex Arnout, PBR Streetgang and Si Heslin.
