Review: Flower Power at Pacha

Flower power is unlike any other night on the Island, bringing old school disco classics to Ibiza’s VIP club and making cheesy music, flares and afro’s cool once more.

Usually I'd visit Pacha to see artists such as Swedish House Mafia, Erick Morillo or Luciano perform but last Tuesday I finally got to go to one of Piti's Flower power parties. With only 6 parties over the summer I assumed the night would be popular especially at we've just entered into August. Hosting a huge inflatable sign above the entrance in every colour imaginable as well as a Beatles memorial along the path replicating their Sgt. Pepper's album cover immediately indicated the night would be full of fun and provide something different.

Arriving at Pacha early was a great idea especially as there were a few special treats in store for us; the global room was set up like a hippy market with stools selling peace sign necklaces, fans featuring seventies inspired designs, other accessories and flower power merchandise. As well as an area where you could have your photo taken in fancy dress and there was also life size cut outs of The Beatles to have a picture with. Having such a visual feast on entering really added to the excitement and unique feel to the night.

The dance floor was steadily filling up with a variety of holiday makers and workers but the main party goer the night seemed to attract were the locals, VIP's and older generations enjoying a past time. It was great to see such a diverse crowd partying together and all enjoying the music and atmosphere for slightly different reasons.

Immediately getting my groove on to classic such as Get it on - T Rex, I Shot the sheriff – Bob Marley, Rescue me – Montella Bass, Jailhouse rock – Elvis and of course Respect by Aretha Franklin.

Flower power definitely embraced the disco era and with the atmosphere oozing a seventies like delirium with a large section of the crowd dressed in 60's-80's nostalgia, making me genuinely feel like an extra in an Austin Powers film. The whole night was full of surprises from a Harley-Davidson driving through the main room's crowd to a cut out of a yellow submarine following suit to accompany the Beatles classic.

Soon after 3am the party took a rockier turn and mixed things up a little bit with tracks such as We will rock you by Queen, which got everybody clapping their hands to the chorus. There were many moments throughout the night when it felt like everyone that was there were friends, with such a friendly vibe Flower power made a nice change to my weekly party schedule and finding a party that was suitable for all is a rarity.
