Azealia Banks was raised on the streets of Harlem, New York, and trained in the highly regarded LaGuardia High School for Performing Arts, honing her talents and combining the rougher edges of attitude from Harlem with the lessons learnt in school to present herself as the artist we see and hear today.
It was announced only 6 days ago that she had finally rid herself of the failed relationship and record contract with Universal, saying "I'm tired of having to consult a group of old white guys about my black girl craft. They don't even know what they're listening for or to." Her debut album 'Broke With Expensive Taste' has been set to drop for some time now, but with no sign of a release date, we only have a few tracks to go on from an EP and a mixtape released over the last 2 years. Time for some new music we think, and she agrees. Watch this space.
For now, enjoy the beautiful and deep lyrics of her '212' track, as she raps lyrical about her lady parts.
Azealia plays at Privilege's biggest party this Friday - Supermartxé - in front of somewhere around the 10,000 person mark, as is the capacity of the venue. She is set to play the main room of course, but not forgetting the Vista Club holds the Superman gay-focused side of the party next door. Spandex at the ready.
Tickets are still available for 35€.
