Top 10 Releases: May 2013

Scouring the world's sound waves to bring you ten eclectic dance tunes, as fresh as they come.

Marc de Vole & Patrick Muschiol 'Sputnik' (Solee remix) / Patro de Musica / Released May 8th

To begin with, some epic and emotional techno. The original was smooth and enjoyable but German mastermind Solee has given it energy and guts, turning this into an impressive lose-your-head monster of a track.

Terrence Pearce 'Halcyon' / Futureboogie / Released May 7th

I try to spread my selections out but Futureboogie releases keep muscling their smooth and groovy house selves in here each month. This casual saxophone number comes from Cape Town producer Terrence Pearce, who is churning out a lot of other good stuff this month too.

Victor Ruiz and Alex Stein 'Message' / Sprout / Released May 2nd

Savage and angry techno here. Strangely, a terminator style robot advises you to 'be kind to every single person on this planet' whilst dark and destructive industrial sounds warp and clang in the background. Joyous.

Four Tet 'Unspoken' / Self Released May 13th

This track uses a slowed down piano sample from Tori Amos' 'Winter' that Four Tet hasn't been able to clear for release since he first made the uber chilled trip-hop style track in 2003. He still can't clear it now for the re-release of his seminal album 'Rounds,' so he's put it out as a free download - nice one! Hope you're not in a rush - it's an absolutely immense WAV file.

Monsta 'Messiah' (Feed Me remix) / Polydor / Released May 5th

And now for something different. There are only so many cool, dark and deep tunes a body can take before it just has to jump around to something big. Nostalgic sounds, broken beats; out now on Polydor.

Airbird and Napolian feat. Erika Spring 'In the Zone' / Cascine / Released May 21st

This is the first release from Airbird and Napolian, featuring dreamy vocals from Erika Spring. Look forward to their debut full length at the end of this year. In the meantime, did you know the artist who did the single cover goes by the name Megazord? Bold.

Maya Jane Coles 'Everything' feat. Karin Park / I/AM/ME / Released May 12th

When is Maya Jane Coles going to stop getting everything so damn right? Another dark, sexy and melodic production from the best lady in the business. If you watch the film clip you get to see bird guts.

No Artificial Colours 'Crying Wolf EP' / Madtech / Released May 13th

Title track Crying Wolf features the soulful squawks of Alex Mills (you may remember her from such globally rinsed singles as Miguel Campbell's 'Something Special') and, once again, she makes the track. The whole EP has an excellent groove and will be another succesful release for fledgling label Madtech.

Pedestrian 'Hoyle Road Remixes' / Born Electric / Released May 13th

The latest release from James Zabeila's quality label - featuring remixes of this track by SpectraSoul, FaltyDL and Benjamin Damage and Doc Daneeka. Gorgeous tuned percussion lifts this track into something special.

Mount Kimbie 'You Took Your Time' feat.King Krule / Warp / Released May 27th

King Krule brings incredible emotion and tone to this otherwise relaxed cut from Mount Kimbie's forthcoming 'Cold Spring Fault Less Youth' album. If you're not already onto this 18 year old boy genious, check him out, the results will surprise you.
