Monday 1 March is the Day of the Balearic Islands and, to mark the occasion, our friends at the Ibiza Food Bank are launching a new campaign to help replenish their overstretched resources. Due to high demand, the shelves at the relief centre are running dry, and many islanders are still in crisis.
The ‘March4Ibiza' fundraiser is a major effort to raise funds and awareness for the cause, while animating everyone to get out and enjoy the beautiful spring weather and magnificent countryside.
With the aim of raising an extra €10,000 in sponsorship, a contribution which will significantly help those unable to afford even the basic necessities, participants are encouraged to Walk, Run, Bike, Scooter or even Hop 60km (the combined length and breadth of Ibiza) during the month of March. How you take part is up to you...
For younger Marchers with little feet and those less abled, but still keen to get involved, there is also the option of a 20km (the breadth of Ibiza) challenge. And for those who like to go that extra mile, how about setting a 210km target, equivalent to the circumference of Ibiza?
And it doesn't really matter where you are, everyone who loves Ibiza can take part to help this critical cause. All you need to do is register online at Ibiza Food Bank. There is no registration fee. Donations can also be made directly to the GoFundMe page via the website or you can choose to sponsor a participant here.
Local disco collective Melon Bomb have kindly provided a soundtrack to march too.
So, lace up and join the March and please share your photos and memories on social media, with the hashtags #march4ibiza or #ibizafoodbank. Fancy dress optional!
