The worldwide hotel industry faces an unprecedented set of challenges, presented by the Covid-19 pandemic. To recover from these unique circumstances, all hotels will have to apply exceptional hygiene and social distancing measures, in order to safeguard the health of their guests.
Slowly but surely, we are seeing cautious movements towards the reopening of many establishments here on Ibiza. Some hoteliers are taking the unilateral decision to remain closed for 2020. Other groups of hotels are opening some of their premises, but not all.
Naturally, demand will be lower this year, but we predict that the small, independent hotels, which do open, should be in the best position to apply the new regulations and will prosper this summer. Rural hotels (known locally as agroturismos), boutique hotels and the smaller theme hotels should all be close to fully booked, for what is left of the 2020 season.
Ibiza is blessed with an abundance of independent establishments, all offering something quirky, unique or traditional to their independent minded clientele. They are the perfect retreats to temporarily detach from the preoccupations of our daily lives. Here is a selection of our favourites:
Hacienda

Leave your cares behind, as you step through the doors of this magical, 5-star oasis, which blends elegantly into its surroundings. One of the jewels in the Mambo Group's chain of excellent venues, La Torre offers the same dedication to top quality musical entertainment, paired with great cuisine, cocktails and arguably the most retina-relaxing views on the island. There is no swimming pool, but the beaches of Cala Gracio and Gracioneta are within walking distance.
Wi-Ki-Woo

Quirky, colourful and undeniably funky, this popular hangout for the Instagram generation has the added bonus of unforgettable sunsets mixed with cocktails, to enjoy before hitting the San Antonio nightlife. Standing on the front line at Caló des Moro, Wi-Ki-Woo is full of happy vibes and also has a small inside club, available for private parties, which might just be worth keeping an eye on this season.
Santos/Paradiso
Playa den Bossa/San Antonio Bay
Theme hotels of the Concept Group which are confirmed to reopen, on 3 July 2020, are Santos Ibiza Suites in Playa den Bossa and Paradiso Art Hotel in the Bay of San Antonio. Concept hotels offer their guests an immersive experience, in great locations and with wonderful design touches and always a little extra something. Open-air, live music events are scheduled to be held next door to Santos, at Dorado, during peak season. Poolside is the place to chill at the Miami themed Paradiso.
Ocean Drive

Built in the 60's, Ocean Drive is a monument to the Art deco movement, at the far end of Ibiza port. Ideally placed for a short walk to the popular beach of Talamanca, the Botafoc marina with its adjacent nightlife, including the clubs Pacha Heart and Lío, or the city centre. Modernised throughout, with contemporary room décor, and an excellent rooftop bar. Treat yourself to an upgrade to the sea view rooms, with beautiful vistas of the marina and Dalt Vila glittering across the water.

Just around the corner from Ocean Drive, you will find the pretty little 16 room boutique hotel Mikasa, boasting the same benefits as its neighbour, yet with a very different flavour.
