David Guetta’s BIG opening party

The king of electronic dance music made a BIG return to Ushuaïa on Monday.

Mondays at Ushuaïa kick off with a BIG bang as global superstar David Guetta's opening party extravaganza drew in a huge rave-ready crowd, as expected. The clue is in the residency title – and this party was definitely bigger, better and louder than most places worldwide.

BIG has been one of the most successful residencies on the island for years, so here's why Guetta continues to victoriously wow the White Isle.

Beginning at 17:00, it's no surprise that the hype for this event caused traffic on the roads Monday evening with the early-bird party goers out in force.

Dance music played through the speakers of the disco bus packed with pumped party people. But it was nothing compared to the sounds we were about to jump to as we make our way to the poolside party.

BIG resident DJ LOVRA kicked things off and it did not take long for the super-club to fill up and cause queues outside the venue.

As my first time visiting the open-air club, I was gobsmacked at the epic size of the venue but not so surprised at the number of people who came to support the platinum-selling DJ.

By the time Jax Jones took to the stage, the party was going off. No worries about being too far away as Ushuaïa has enough space for everyone to enjoy. I squeezed my way through the sweaty partiers to the middle of the crowd ready to get amongst the madness.

The crowd were baying for the English DJ to play his most recent party hit: You Don't Know Me featuring RAYE.

Despite teasing us until the end, this track marked the culmination of his performance leaving the crowd excited for Jonas Blue.

Blue began his set with some of his most popular mainstream pop songs including Perfect Strangers, Mama ft. William Singe and his tropical house cover of Tracey Chapmans 1988 single Fast Car.

As the sun began to set in Playa d'en Bossa the lights shine on the aeroplanes flying unexpectedly low over our heads. Plenty of wows came from the crowd during the evening.

Deep in a sea of multi-coloured BIG hats and BIG foam fingers, everyone cheered as Jonas Blue was encouraging from the off, clapping to the big tunes throughout his set, such as hte A-Track remix of Yeah Yeah Yeah's Heads Will Roll, Blues own By Your Side feat. Raye and the Eric Prydz classic Pjanoo (club mix).

Shortly after 22:00, Guetta appeared to a huge roar, saying: “I can't tell you how I feel right now, my heart is beating. I'm sweating. I'm nervous, it's like I'm falling in love with you.”

“Thank you for being here in the opening of BIG. We are back. Are you ready?”

He kicked off the set by introducing his latest track - Like I do with Martin Garrix & Brooks.

The production was breathtaking from the start - with fireworks, flames and smoke cannons exciting the audience throughout the show. Spectacular light display and coloured lasers flashed above our heads when the beat really goes in.

Guetta fist-pumped along with the crowd on stage as he pleased fans with his numerous hit tracks such as Titanium ft. Sia, Bad with Showtek ft. Vassy and Love Is Gone with Chris Willis.

Dancers owned the stage and were lifted high on the podiums fashioned in luminous sportswear. Wearing wacky hats and glow in the dark leg warmers, they put on killer robotic dance moves.

The luminous rave-vibe just got even more vibrant as glow sticks were launched into the begging crowd as far back as they could go – this really caused a stir! Ushuaïa was flashing brightly in Ibiza.

Of course, the star blasted out more of his own classics like Sexy Chick ft. Akon. He also played the ZHU remix of one of the world's hottest tunes right now, One Kiss by Dua Lipa and Calvin Harris, plus a mash-up of The Black Eyed Peas I Got A Feeling and Justin Bieber's Where Are You Now.

The mixing was a continuous flow of electronic tunes with an overlap of popular pop lyrics, obeying the mainstream fans and screaming girls. The crowd was constantly jumping up and down, bodies touching and arms waving, full of fun and happy vibes.

The production kept getting BIGger. The audience reached for their phones frantically trying to get a snapshot as a magical acrobatic angel flew through the air above our raised hands. She swung from a hundred glowing white balloons like something from the animation Up.

The energy never stopped – only got bigger and bigger. David Guetta came towards the end his set with a surprising mix of tracks: Eminem's Lose Yourself mixed into Voices from Dawn from Adriatique.

This went down a storm going by the audience's reaction. He finally ended with some of my favourites, pleasing his fans with Flames ft. Sia, 2u (Tujamo Remix) ft. Justin Bieber and Work Hard Play Hard ft. NeYo.

Get your comfy shoes on and get ready to jump all night for this one. As one of the most popular parties on the island, Guetta will be raving it up at Ushuaïa every Monday through to 24 September.
