Rumors outdoes itself

Destino turned into a party paradise last Sunday with Papa Sven.

As I danced overlooking the glistening Mediterranean waters with the sun still high, a sense of perfection reached me within this remote hideaway. To describe Rumors last Sunday, some would say a place close to Shangri-la or any other sort of imaginary paradise would suffice.

A unique and enriching party experience is exactly what the promoters created. With its imaginative décor and idyllic colour scheme, the Pacha-branded hotel Destino is transformed one more time.

The vibe was right from the start with DJ Three bringing minimal groovy house sounds. A favourite was Axel Boman's remix of SLG's I Love You But I've Chosen Disco. With its fiery prominent bassline and glitchy acidic percussion it enabled the crowd to do nothing but get into a groove. The slow drive of the track emphasised the anticipation we all had for the Master Väth to take to the decks, and soon it was time.

With his outstanding reputation for throwing the most euphoric parties, it was overwhelming to witness the German DJ and producer perform to such an intimate crowd. As a pioneer of techno, Sven (with no surprise) handpicked an eclectic selection of tracks for his vinyl infused set.

He opened with Dinky's Casa (Axel Boman Dub Mix), a track initially taking on an ambient style of techno with euphoric vocals and entropic drumbeats. As he welcomed his audience to the Sven realm, the track suddenly transitioned into an arrangement of tribal infused rhythms.

Excitement flushed throughout the crowd each time Sven held a new record in hand. Next on his agenda was The Mule by Human Machine. This progressive house tune stunned a sort of utopian arrangement, with its cushioned bassline and clean cut hi-hats, fitting perfectly as the sun faded.

As the moon lit up, the music got deeper transcending us to an even further sense of tranquility with a Shed remix of Moderat's Running and next taking us under with Johannes Volk's trance style track Luminance. The outstanding cohesion of the party was clear to see as the orbital chimes from Väth's track selection laced themselves with the ambient décor and energized vibes, creating the ultimate party paradise.

What I found so special about Rumors is the uplifting reassurance that artists with renowned reputations are still willing to play at free parties. The Rumors fiesta will continue each week with a handful of special guests – some yet to be announced. Without a doubt, the best possible way to spend your Sunday. What day of rest?
