The glorious beaches of Ibiza and Formentera continue are some of the most loved treasures of the Balearics. Smart Charter Ibiza, the leading boat charter company decided to take things into its own hands in a special beach cleaning day, pulling up the rubbish and debris from the magical island of Espalmador, next to Formentera.
This uninhabited islet is famous for its pristine white sands and clear waters and is a top destination on Smart Charter Ibiza's yacht trips. Ensuring the beach stays that way, the company sent 40 of its staff to clean this beautiful beach so it would be free of debris.
Each year the huge numbers of tourists that come to Ibiza and Formentera leave behind all kinds of items without carefully or safely disposing of them. The team cleaned up lots of items from broken glass, drinks cans, cigarette ends, plastic bags, bottle tops and lots of general rubbish. Some of the team members even found bags of waste buried in the sand.
Smart Charter Ibiza has been very successful since launching three years ago and each year takes thousands of people around these gorgeous Balearic islands. Not only tourists litter, it has to be said, since the team found wooden pallets and building materials as well as old fishing nets washed up onto the sand.
It is incumbent on us all to do our part and make sure we take away the rubbish we create so that everyone can enjoy the magic that is Ibiza and Formentera. We salute Smart Charter Ibiza for this initiative of giving something back to the islands. We ask all of you to make their jobs easier next time by picking up your litter and encourage your friends and family to do the same.
