In an attempt to balance the lively tourism of Playa d'en Bossa with the needs of local residents, the Council of San José have unveiled plans to oblige all music venues from next year to have sound and vibration limiters fitted to their sound equipment. The decision was made and final approval granted at the last council meeting on November 13th
Whilst the annual explosion in this popular Ibiza resort is great news for the business owners in Playa d'en Bossa, the council explained that the resort's very popularity comes with a cost. Every year, commented a spokesperson, they get more reports and complaints of excessive noise pollution from increasingly exasperated residents of the area.
The new regulation will affect all the hotels, discotheques, beach clubs and bars over the entire Playa d'en Bossa zone, from the top of the beach at Sal Rossa, to the border with Ibiza Town, stretching all the way up to the motorway. The equipment will be pre-set with not just noise limits, but time limits too, ensuring no business continues longer than the permitted time or louder than the permitted volume - without a stiff fine to look forward to.
The limiters also collect data over time, meaning that business owners can expect periodic inspections by the authorities. The machines cannot be tampered with and anyone who is found to have exceeded limits will be fined retrospectively.
The council of San José are confident that these new measures will improve the situation for residents considerably from the 2015 season onwards.
