Ibiza Winter Restaurants - Bar San Francisco, Las Salinas

San Francisco is a friendly, family run restaurant in the stunning nature reserve and World heritage site of Las Salinas serving up the hugest home-made burger our astonished reviewer ever saw, in front of a cosy, roaring fire. 'Nuff said!.

Family-run Bar San Francisco in Las Salinas is most definitely worth a visit if you are on Ibiza this winter.

Head into Las Salinas, past DC10, and Bar San Francisco can be found on the left, directly opposite the church. There is plenty of free parking in the church's car park, but my friends and I were able to park easily on the street right outside the restaurant.

At first, we felt slightly disappointed that it was too cold a day for us to sit out in the beautiful and very well-maintained garden, but the stove fire and big open fire that greeted us when we walked inside more than made up for it. This, along with the friendly welcome from the owner and staff, and we were soon feeling very much at home.

The menu offered sixteen choices of starters or tapas, thirteen different wraps and fifteen varieties of hot sandwiches.

We decided to order a selection of tapas to start with and share them. The almonds fried with chilli looked harmless enough, but we were soon to discover a blazingly hot after-taste…still, burning mouths or not, we couldn't seem to stop eating them! Acorn fed chorizo, fresh bread with tomato, and Manchego cheese in oil, this simple, home-made food felt just perfect for a winter day on Ibiza.

Bar San Francisco is famed for its burgers, and my two companions both opted for beef burger with bacon and egg, and when they arrived, I can, in all honesty, say that I have never in my life seen such a huge burger. As well as the bacon and egg, there was lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese served in a home-made bap which bore little resemblance to the flimsy buns usually associated with burgers. Our editor-in-chief is currently compiling a list of restaurants on Ibiza that she would make the effort to travel to whenever she fancies a particular type of food…and, ladies and gentlemen, it seems that Bar San Francisco (even though it is more than an hour's drive from her home) is the winner next time she has a burger craving.

For the non-meat eaters, there was also a wide range of choice, and I selected goat cheese with fresh mushroom and rocket wrap, which was absolutely delicious, very filling, and somewhat easier to eat than the burgers!

The three of us decided to share two desserts; chocolate and hazelnut crepe, and white chocolate mousse…which was actually more like a cake with a spongy base. Again, faultless, good quality, home-made food to round our lunch off perfectly.

For Ibiza residents and holiday-makers alike, Bar San Francisco is a welcoming and warm environment to enjoy some good wholesome food and reasonably priced drinks. Do give it a try.
