F1 powerboat racing is a Grand Prix style event in which teams compete in various locations around the world, and in September 2014, we are excited to announce that Ibiza will be the host of the first ever major power boating event to take place in the whole of Spain - the UIM F1 Powerboat World Championship and UIM-ABP Aquabike Class Pro World Championship.
Inaugurated in 1981, the F1 Powerboat World Championship is generally regarded as the flagship championship of power boating…think of it like Formula 1 on water. Each race lasts approximately forty-five minutes, following a circuit of around 350 metres with the boats sometimes reaching speeds of 250 kilometres per hour.
This three-day event is expected to attract thousands of spectators, and to reach a worldwide television audience of more than 300 million.
Combining top-flight international motorsports and world-class entertainment, the proposed racetrack is at Playa d'en Bossa, whilst the marina in Ibiza Town will be host to the best world champion free-stylers who will be dazzling the crowds with their daring acrobatic performances.
This will mean that Ibiza will be added to the prestigious powerboat racing map, joining other global venues such Abu Dhabi, Sanya and Kiev. The island's crystal clear waters, long beaches, luxury hotels and top quality restaurants make it the perfect choice of location for the glamour and passion surrounding F1 powerboat racing.
Ibiza Spotlight will keep you updated as the event draws nearer, as we are sure this will be an exciting and unique experience for all spectators, both here on Ibiza or via the TV screen in the comfort of your own home!
