Ibiza vs. Miami...
If I said "Here's seven hours and three hundred and fifty Pounds" the moment you arrived on Ibiza, and gave you a comprehensive list of the best beaches, beach bars, clubs, restaurants and alternative things to do ( perhaps a Vespa tour across the island etc), what would you do with these gifts?
The question arose because in discussion about Ibiza, a gentleman recently quipped that "Ibiza is trying to be Miami and Miami is trying to be Ibiza". From the perspective of the music scene, I understood what he was alluding to but other than that, the comparison fell apart for me.
It takes four times as long to fly to Miami from Europe than it does to fly to Ibiza (hence my 'seven hours' above - extra flight time one way and I won't even go into the horrors of massively different time zones and jet lag - gah!)
It also costs at the very least, twice as much to fly to Miami (often much more - I was searching for a right bargain!) - hence my 'three hundred and fifty pounds' reference representing extra cost.
Now, I don't know about you but my holiday time is particularly precious to me!
Gorgeous beaches, more world renowned super clubs than Miami (5 of the top 7 are on Ibiza...), and the whole "Miami is trying to be Ibiza" becomes wholly understandable. The reverse doesn't quite hold water with me - at least not from a European perspective.
Miami? Maybe next year...
With the greatest of pleasures, let the team at Ibiza Spotlight show you a little of what Ibiza has for you this week, whilst you think about having an extra days holiday (if you were to calculate flights times, return) and extra funds to enjoy your time.
Things to Do -
San Juan Fiesta - One of the Greatest Celebrations on Ibiza
The San Juan Fiesta is a multi-day event culminating in a spectacular weekend - this weekend. From concerts in the village plaza to people running (not surprisingly) speedily over live fire, to an inspiring firework display, this fiesta is both steeped in tradition and entertaining for all. Highly recommended!
Our Birthday - Mind, Body & Soul
Our Birthday is a one-off, special event here in Ibiza. Held at a private location near Ses Salinas, the aim is to celebrate the joy and beauty of birth. An authentic Ibiza gathering, it will be a day of celebrating all that is good in child-birth with the sharing of stories, alternative therapies, healing circles and informative documentaries. This is a FREE event, with food and refreshments provided on a donation basis and the whole family is welcome. See website for more information and a map to find the venue - Our Birthday - Tomorrow!
Wax Da Jam at Las Dalias - Party Time
Wax Da Jam, the 'Ibiza institution', are taking over the late night parties on Tuesday at Las Dalias this season. Think Nightmares On Wax, Wolfgang Haffner, Shovell, Negghead. Add in cocktails, gorgeous summer nights and voila, you have a party to remember. Door is 20 euros.
Exploring Ibiza - Sundays at Cala Leña Market
Uncover and discover hidden treasures, mix with the locals at this super friendly Sunday Market - and if you like paella, partake in what is an island legend - all at Cala Leña Market on Sundays.
Never miss a thing - to the best of my knowledge, we have the most comprehensive online island guide for events on the island. These events are for both islanders and visitors alike so please, feel most welcome to explore!
Restaurant of The Week
We checked out dinner last year and returned this year to see what the lunch was like. Needless to say, the restaurant that hit our Top 5 list last season came up trumps and we're delighted to recommend the Giri Cafe of San Juan for discerning diners.
Villa of the Week
Country Villa Puig d'en Valls (Ref. 005) - an ideal country villa for groups up to 8 people, with easy access to the whole island and only 5 km from Ibiza Town and Ibiza's world famous clubs. Wi-Fi and great pool area with bbq.
Now with a special offer for July - 64 euros discount per night - 360 euros per night.
Hotel of the Week
The Puchet Hotel is perfect if you want to be near to the San Antonio town centre but away from hassle and the crowds. The hotel has been completely renovated, has all mod-cons and is just a short walk from the beach. Excellent accommodation at very reasonable prices.
Fashion Tip of the Week
Leena Bhatti knows it all - "This week London hosted the third LCM (London Collection: Men). That's a series of men's fashion shows to you and me. Proving to be the most successful so far, this is indicative of the huge interest reflected not only on the streets but in sales of men's fashion. From the sharp tailoring of Alexander McQueen to the slightly out there man-halter look from JW Anderson, expect to see some fierce trends in men's fashion this summer. In Ibiza however we like to keep it simple. Denim jean simple. Avert the 'Simon Cowell is my dad' look by keeping denim tailored, not baggy."

Clubbing News
Direct from Stivi, Head of the Ibiza Spotlight Clubbing Team - "I won't talk about all the parties we went to in the past few days, but you know the deal, check our review section for this.
News is club Eden in San Antonio will finally re-open next week, on Thursday 27th June. After being sold to a new Dutch owner the venue was closed for remodeling in the early season, so it's gonna be interesting to see what it looks like now. Their full weekly programme is also just coming out these days, have a look at our party guide which is constantly being updated.
Also, works at new club Bomba (well, ex Angel's, Zulu, Penelope and Heaven for those who remember) in Ibiza town are in full swing and we expect the venue to open at the start of July. It's definitely an exciting season so far with a lot of news and changes.
The last remaining line ups of the big Ibiza nights are being released these days too, one of our faves last summer was Richie Hawtin's ENTER. at Space, now see this massive roster of artists for this year!
Want a few personal party tips for the next days? Well here you go:
Friday night - Music On at Amnesia. Jamie Jones teaming up with Marco Carola on the Terrace should be interesting. And there's Miss Kittin in the Main Room too!
Saturday check out ANTS daytime at Ushuaïa, with Maya Jane Coles and Hot Since 82 this week. Love the 12 noon start, let's bring back the daytime parties! Saturday night head to Sankeys, Finnebassen (whom we interviewed a few weeks ago) is back and the Defected guys are in the house as well for Carnival.
Sunday - how could you possibly miss out on Joris Voorn, Heidi and Tensnake on the Space Terrace at We Love...? You simply can't.
And back to Amnesia on Monday, Papa Sven and Seth Troxler on the Terrace for Cocoon. Oh my, when will we ever have a quiet night in?"
